HOLISTIC RUBRICS
Advantage: Quick and easy grading for the whole assignment, thus holistic.
Disadvantage: Does not provide targeted feedback to students. Students’ are unlikely to learn much from the assignment.
ANALYTIC RUBRICS
Advantage: It gives students a clearer picture of why they got the score they got.
Disadvantage: Creating them takes a little more time, students won’t necessarily read the whole thing.
SINGLE-POINT RUBRICS
Advantage: Students are more likely to read it. It will take less time to create, while still providing rich detail about what’s expected. Leaves quality open-ended.
Disadvantage: More feedback required on the teacher’s part.
